Wow. When Janet Ramirez called and told me of the passing of Al Hobbs I had to take a timeout. The memories that came to mind. Having been involved in the ministry of Gospel radio for 28 years we have crossed paths with countless people. Most became friends, some such as Bishop Sam Williams, Merdean Fielding Gales, the late Edna Tatum, Papa Joseph Slade became Mentors, and a few such as Bishop Walter Hawkins, Edwin Hawkins and Al Hobbs became Heroes. When Janet Ramirez and I entered the GAG meeting during GMWA Board Meeting at the Palace Station in Las Vegas, March of 1987, we were received with open arms by Al. There was never any question of our acceptance into this fellowship. And thus started a relationship that I will forever cherish. Al nurtured us and when it came time, pushed us onto the GMWA stage. We are who we are in large part to Al. He is now celebrating in the presence of the One whose music he loved and promoted. Having Big Fat Juicy Fun! Its time to rest from your labor my Hero, my Friend.
