Wow, did I have fun doing this. If you’ve watched the video of Chicago in Amsterdam you’ve seen the texts scrolling by – in German. Well, I translated it. I, err, umm, remembered what I learned in my high school German class...got out my pocket dictionary...and spent all night translating...yeah, THAT’S the TICKET! Anyway, it was a pretty interesting exercise. I took some liberties with some of the translation to make it sound right and I left some of it alone just to convey the feel of the different syntax. Hope you enjoy: @3:20 CHICAGO They studied classical Music at the famous DePaul University, played in various rock bands and jazz orchestras. They were tired, as her trombonist Jim Pankow explained, “of making music that is stagnant and the young people are no longer interested, so the band came to conditions four years ago: A group of classical trained musicians with jazz of our experience the rock music plays.” @5:37 Terry Kath (Guitar) is the best improviser in the group. He plays captivating blues choruses. Garnishes it with avant-garde harmony chains and feedback effects, it tears from the strict blues form. It sounds as if it were a regular Blues; but whoever trusts soon has the feeling he falls in an elevator shaft - the case is similar to an orgasm.” DOWN BEAT @11:16 Americas pop avant-garde go the way of the beat-combo for a larger size orchestra, take on Jazz brass, write unusual arrangements, and experiment with larger forms. @22:16 “CHICAGO is a creative community”, J.W. Guercio, Californian Record Producer Guercio brought the group to Los Angeles, rented them a house and told them: Do not worry about food and rent - make music. Two years they did almost nothing, performing for minimum salaries in pubs and beat palaces. After that first breakthrough in Hollywood: 18,000 listeners; the band was established. @24:39 It brings the highest degree of satisfaction to play for other people. You must be a personality and make your own music. But you must always know how to reach your listeners.” Jim Pankow, Trombonist of the group. youtube/watch?v=Nxo7o-Naa38
