Wow, what a day! Congrats to everyone who finished the grueling Mt. Killington race today. Everyone told me how steep, rocky, and ridiculously challenging the Spartan Race World Championship would be, but that challenge got raised quite a bit when I sprained my right ankle within the first 20 minutes of the 4 and a half hour race. I finished ninth, and even though many people expected me to finish higher, I did the best I could, all things considered, so Im proud of myself. Normally, the running portion is my strength, but I had to step cautiously, especially through all the technical areas, since my vulnerable ankle kept rolling repeatedly. This caused me to really push the steep uphill hiking sections, (even the sections with the 40-50 pound sandbag and bucket carries), which was kind of cool since I dont usually excel as much in these sections. (Good thing Id been practicing them, so I could make up time I lost in the running portions). I suppose I could be disappointed in my place, but getting top 10 in the world among amazing athletes my first year is something I feel I can be proud of. Now I know what I need work on, and now I have an idea of what to train for for next year. Today I experienced both an ankle sprain and (very temporary) debilitating cramping for the first time in my life, and still pressed on with perseverance, so I now have the confidence of knowing those two unfortunate circumstances cant physically stop me or mentally defeat me. I may be hobbling around with a bum ankle for a few days, but my spirits are high after spending an incredible weekend with amazing people! Id like to give a shout-out to Tim Sinnett the Race Sherpa for his undying support, devotion, and patience; and Id like to congratulate my friend, Spartan teammate, and BeetElite buddy, April Dee, for pulling out an impressive podium finish after an intense year as a new single working mom. To all the moms out there from the front of the pack to the back, I salute you!!!
