Wow, yesterday I read comments about the upcoming 3 foot law that will be in effect. I was appalled at the hate remarks from drivers towards cyclists. It prompted my response to defend my right to share the road, and that roads are not just a road meant for vehicles as many drivers believe. I noticed the anger about cyclists who disobey the rules of the road. They seem to lump all cyclists into that category. I defended my stance that I disapprove of cyclists who ride reckless and that there are many of us who follow the rules. Ignorance is rampant, I pointed out that three feet is a minimum asked for, and in comparison to drivers who drive distracted disobeying the law are a serious threat. Those of us who ride to commute, ride for the freedom to enjoy the outdoors, for necessity, for health, and to be happy. We help the environment by subtracting a vehicle from the road. Please if you are a cyclist please help educate young cyclists about safety, the laws, and our right to share the roads. Also, educate drivers that not all cyclists are negligent riders and agree that there has to be a way meet. There are some nasty feelings about the three foot law, and all I can say is be a good example and stay safe my cycling friends it is going to be a rough ride.
