Writer and musician (and Knishes star) James McBride just won the National Book Award for his novel The Good Lord Bird. Couldnt happen to a nicer or more talented guy. I first heard about him when I worked at a B&N and read his book The Color of Water, which became one of my favorites. Years later, he was one of the first people I emailed to be interviewed for Knishes--I didnt really expect a response, but he wrote right back and said hed love to. Hes been a great supporter of my film ever since, and he and his daughter Azure even came to one of my fundraiser screenings. Im thrilled and I imagine he is too. He beat out Thomas Pynchon!
