Writing this in English, so that my overseas friends can read it - TopicsExpress

Writing this in English, so that my overseas friends can read it too. I think the riot may just die down as it loses momentum without the police having to do much. The main turning points are the change in local public opinion and international opinion. The former is easy to understand as it causes a lot of disruption to everyday life. The latter is due to the exact reason why US wants to dip their toes in our political waters: the whole concept of regional balance of power. Singapore has already spoken up. I dont think anyone in the region wants to see HK turn into a US-manipulated city. It will upset the regional balance of power too much. Seeing the change in opinion, even the UK is slowly turning around. It could well be a blessing in disguise: 1) More local ppl have realised that the popular media group, Next Media, twists facts in their already selective reporting of the news. So, its ability to brainwash the public will be lessened in the near future 2) the same goes for the credibility of local Democrats, and the likelihood of them gaining anything, even if there really were to be direct nomination/election of the Chief Executive, is rather dim at the moment. But I think the public should also take a step back and review the attitude and mindset of a lot of local educators - not just the ones in the forefront but all educators in HK. The event has demonstrated how ppl here are passive in their search for truth. This is a common trait I have mentioned a while back when I said I always find it strange why ppl would ask me to recommend books for them to read when they want to know about investment. By asking others to recommend a book for you, you are seeking knowledge via the selection of another person. I have seen this so often among local people. When I want to find out about a subject, I go to the library or Amazon and search for books myself. I NEVER ask anyone for a recommendation. Independent thinking can only come from the followings: 1) an acknowledgement of the existence of various unknown facts out there 2) an active search for those unknown facts by means of a wide reading spectrum
