Writing this post is heart breaking. Havent left mothers side since Monday. I wasnt sure that she would still be here this morning. Her breathing has become shallow and labored with bouts of apnea. Her feet are cold and turning a bluish color. Under her finger nails have turned blue while her complexion is pale and gray. She hasnt been awake for at least 24 hours....she has opened her eyes a tiny bit a couple of times when home health came to bathe her and again when the nurse dressed her wounds. She made very little sound when they turned her. Her skin is beginning to break down very rapidly. Blood pressure is down to 80/50. Hospice nurse said that her body was transitioning to shut down. Her arms and hands are beginning to jerk and twitch as the muscles are relaxing.....but, Praise God, she is resting. They want her to rest as much as possible because when she doesnt, it is a strain on her heart and will cause her to go faster. Hospice brought out signs and posted for only one visitor at a time for 5 minutes. If she doesnt get rest or seems to get agitated, they will post a no visitors sign. I think the hardest thing I have had to do was sign the DNR form......as much as I want to keep my mom with me, my desire for her peace and happiness is greater.
