Wrong move! The U.S. cannot build those bridges of mutual understanding and cooperation with the rest of the world if programs like the Fulbright are put on the chopping block. It seems like these days in Washington, its cut, cut, and cut everything. Cutting security in U.S. embassies abroad (pre-Benghazi), cutting vital programs to the poor, cutting research for funding, education, infrastructure building/rebuilding,...And now even great programs like the Fulbright are about to be trashed. Cutting everything isnt going to cut it in the long term. As a former Fulbrighter, I strongly believe that programs like the Fulbright play a major role in winning hearts and minds and strengthening U.S. diplomacy in the world while fostering research and higher education.
