Keep her in your thoughts and prayers. Deceased NANCY JUNE (HOPEWELL) CHRISTIAN Nov 28, 1940-Nov 23, 2014 Nancy June (Hopewell) Christian of rural Avoca, Iowa lost her battle with cancer and passed away peacefully at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE on Sunday evening November 23rd 2014, with her entire family by her side. Nancy was born to Jim and Eva (Todd) Hopewell in Kansas City, KS. She graduated from Wyandotte High School and attended Kansas City Kansas Junior College. As a cheerleader in college, Nancy met her future husband, Bill who was a member of the basketball team. Following college, Nancy won the title of Miss Kansas City, KS. Nancy then worked at Peat- Marwick Mitchell, CPA. Nancy and Bill were married May 25th, 1963 while Bill was home on leave from the Marines. After Bills discharge in 1964, they made their home in Overland Park, KS. Bills employment brought them to Omaha, NE for a short time. They then moved to the Minneapolis area. Later they transferred back to Omaha where they located to an acreage in rural Shelby County in 1976. To this union, four children were born: Kerrie Dea (Jeremy/Shelby IA), Travis Christian (Brooklyn/Avoca IA), Laurie Osbahr (Darren/Leawood KS), and Clayton Christian (Melissa/Avoca IA). She was preceded in death by her parents Jim and Eva Hopewell. Nancy leaves to mourn her husband Bill; children Kerrie, Travis, Laurie, and Clayton; her siblings James Hopewell (Kansas City, KS) and Richard Hopewell (Belton, MO); Grandchildren Taylor Baggett, Kori Price, Sienna and Will Christian, Jadie Dea, and Kenna Christian. Nancy spent much of her time working to drive awareness about Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and raising money to support research for a cure. She was an avid Cornhusker fan, followed baseball, basketball, football, and ladies volleyball and basketball. Nancy was a faithful follower of her childrens and grandchildrens sports and theatrical programs as well as motor sports competition with her sons Travis and Clayton. Nancy was a wonderful mother and grandmother and will be deeply missed! The family will receive friends and relatives on Wednesday, November 26th from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Pauley Jones Funeral Home 1304 No. Sawmill Dr. Avoca IA 51521 for Visitation and a Celebration of Life will follow at 7:00 PM. Foley, husband of Elaine (Haines) Foley, a 1958 classmate, died December 9th, 2014. William was also a graduate of Wyandotte High School. Roberta Bert (Carr) Ventura, 74, of KCK, passed away suddenly on October 3, 2014 at home. Memorial Visitation will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 11th at Chapel Hill – Butler Funeral Home, 701 North 94th Street, Kansas City, Kansas 66112. Bert was born January 7, 1940 in Wichita, Kansas to Jay Ray Carr and Wilma Carr. She grew up in Kansas City and graduated from Wyandotte High School. Bert married the love of her life, John Ventura in Miami, Oklahoma, and they shared over 56 years wonderful years together. She worked as a bank teller for over 40 years, and retired from US Bank in 2005. Bert loved going bowling, playing bingo, and trying her luck at the boats. She also was a wonderful seamstress, often making clothing and costumes for her kids and family. Bert was a fun-loving person and her spirit will be missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Darrell and her sister Wanda. Bert is survived by her husband of 56 years, John Ventura; her daughter, Laura Ventura; her son, John Ventura, Jr and his wife Brenda; her grandchildren, Shannon Camacho and her husband Erik, Bobby Sandnes and his wife Stephanie, Jessica Romo and her husband Nicholas, Brandi Davis and her husband Jeremy, and Alexis Ventura; her sister, Betty Lou Young; and thirteen great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild as well as many other family members and friends. Fond memories and condolences for Bert may be left at chapelhill-butler, as arrangements are under the direction of Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home, 701 North 94th Street, Kansas City, Kansas 66112.
