The Prophet Muhammad, born in 570 AD, is believed by Muslims to be the last of Gods prophets to mankind who delivered the religions final revelation. His resting place in Medina, Saudi Arabia is visited by millions of Muslims every year and is seen as the second holiest site after the Kaaba, the famous black cubed building in Mecca. But it emerged last night that a Saudi academic has put forward contentious plans to have the Prophets remains moved from the tomb over fears by some scholars that the site is leading to idolatry. Dr Irfan al-Alawi, director of the Islamic Heritage Research Foundation, told the newspaper: They want to prevent pilgrims from attending and venerating the tomb because they believe this is shirq, or idolatry.
