YES, BUT WHAT CAN I DO? I have never been one to complain or cause a ruckus. I have never previously disagreed with a teacher or principal, much less a state official. It is not that I didn’t have an opinion, but that I had not been involved in school, community or political groups and I did not feel educated enough to speak out. Plus, I have been busy. At the same time, I have been praying for God to send us a leader. Please send us someone who can straighten out this mess we have created in our country. Send us someone else, anyone else, (besides me). Five weeks ago, my children came home with Common Core workbooks. I didn’t know much about the Common Core Initiative, but I started reading and researching. What I found horrified me. It was then that I realized that I couldn’t wait for someone else to stand up. I needed to do my small part in making my community a better place. I have parents contacting me every day asking me what they can do. Here is what I tell them. Pray. When I am overwhelmed by this task, I stop and pray. I ask God to guide my work each day. I ask for Wisdom, Words, Courage, Strength and Grace. I ask parents to read and research and educate themselves on the issues we face and to spread the word to their friends and family. If we all do our part, God will take care of the rest. - Lisa McCarthy
