YES! Europeans, having long done without wildlife, have realized how wonderful, unique and beautiful they are to the land and waterscape! When will North Americans reach this conclusion and corresponding attitude towards wildlife . . . .? To start with, there are extremely strict restrictions on killing, injuring or disturbing protected wildlife like lynxes. As in, don’t do it. Europe has also encouraged farmers and others to shift away from lethal methods of deterring curious carnivores that might harm sheep and other livestock being raised for milk and food. Instead of traps and guard dogs, farmers are using electric fences that gently encourage animals to look elsewhere for a snack. European nations are also cooperating across borders to support better wildlife regulation, ensuring that animals are as protected as possible and that they can move freely across borders as they range.
