(AND Rural Texas Tourism, LLC) Country Christmas in Fayetteville--A Celebration with Historic Homes Tours, Music, Village, Pet Parade, Carriage Rides, and a Myriad of Activities for All on Saturday, December 14 The historic community of Fayetteville is at it again—celebrating another tradition, this time the 17th Annual Country Christmas and Homes Tour set for Saturday, December 14 from 10 am to 9 pm. From a Christmas Village to children’s activities, Pet Parade to pictures with Santa, Amish Wagon & carriage rides to country Christmas tunes, Fayetteville carries the many years of celebration with family fun, tradition, and history--their “hometown” Country Christmas all staged for Saturday, December 14 from 10 am to 9 pm. This is a hometown celebration that centers on a town square on the National Registry of Historic Towns with over 400 structures to proudly claim to this list. Food and drinks, arts and crafts will be available from 10 am to 5 pm and some even later into the evening (with local shops/restaurants open with those specials as well), Christmas music will be showcased with Jimmy Rohde DJ performing from 10 am – 3:30 pm, and the Heritage Museum will be open for self-guided courthouse tours for a glimpse of the past from 10 am to 4 pm. Fayetteville’s Annual Homes Tour (a definite not-to-miss array of beautifully preserved historical structures) kicks off from 1-5 pm with sites featured including: Ernest & Jane Fruge Home, Robbie & Lennie Higgins Home, Maryann & Clovis Heimsath Farm, Joan & Jerry Herring’s 1850’s House & Sealy House, Country Butler’s Country Star Home, and the Smith Home. Tickets and maps are a nominal $15.00 and are available Fayetteville Bank, Fayette Realty Inc., Jerry’s General Store, Orsak’s Café, and on the day of the event on the Square (at the old Fire Station), and at each home exhibited. The Christmas Village will dominate a fun-filled venue at Ye Ole Garage from 12-6 pm (free event) and children’s activities commence on the square from 10 am until 4 pm with a Bounce House and Train Ride included. There will be an open house at the Mt. Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church from 10 am – noon, a candy/bake sale at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church Parish Hall from 10 am – 1 pm, a tour of the amazing preserved church paintings at St. John Catholic Church from 10 am – 1, and complementary portrait sketches at the country Place Gallery from 2-4 pm. Art lovers can enjoy “Pat Johnson Recent Work” gallery talk at 3 pm at the Red & White Gallery. The Ross Gallery ARTS’ Member Show will host the Children’s Holiday Show from December 7-28 at 114 N. Live Oak and may be reached at [email protected] or 979-378-2113. This exhibit focuses on the wonderful works of its members and offers each one the opportunity to exhibit their works in a public forum. Even the “well-behaved” critters are welcome as the Fayetteville Annual Pet Parade commences at 4 pm with the blessing of the pets and the parade. The event gives all ages a chance to spruce up their special pet for the holidays in competition with loads of fun and laughs. There is a nominal registration fee of $10.00, one pet per entry form is required, and one pet per walker is requested. Award categories include: Christmas, comical, look-a-like, recycled, movie star and Community Choice. This event is hosted by the Fayetteville Lion’s Club and net proceeds benefit PUP and the La Grange Animal Shelter. Drop off envelopes may be addressed to the FISD Office or Joe’s Place by Friday, December 6. Forms may also be mailed to Pet Parade at PO box 217, Fayetteville, TX 78940 by Wednesday, December 4. Bring the cameras as Santa makes his appearance at The Country Place Hotel from 5:30 – 7:30 and celebrate in the illuminating of the Christmas tree on the square during this time. After 5:30 pm, complimentary hot chocolate and cookies will be available at the Country Glam and Orsak’s Café. And to get everyone into the spirit, an Amish wagon and carriage rides will be available to travel around the community and view the Christmas lights from 6-9 pm with a free will donation. As evening approaches, visitors will enjoy caroling on the square as Abigail Taylor joins the festivities with country Christmas tunes and sing-along from 6:30 – 8:30 pm. Abigail is 11 years old, hails from Houston, Texas, and is a growing country musician who began playing guitar and singing at the young age of 8. Fayetteville’s Chamber of Commerce has encouraged all Fayetteville residents to light up for the holidays and be a part of the annual Christmas Home Decorating Contest. Homes with a Fayetteville mailing address are eligible and viewable from the road or drive. They are judged on curbside appeal only with judging taking place 5-8 pm on Wednesday, December 11. Everyone is encouraged to have their lights on for judging and from 6-9 pm December 14 as carriage rides wind down the historical path of this hometown community. Winners will be announced at 5 pm, Saturday December 14, on the Square during the Country Christmas celebration. Awards are: 1st Place $100, 2nd Place $75, 3rd Place $50, and Honorable Mention and based on nighttime visibility, holiday spirit, and creativity.
