YOU MAY HAVE TO RE-INTRODUCE YOURSELF TO SOME PEOPLE... by Holie Omoso Last week I went to bid farewell to a relative as He got promoted to glory. We laid my mum’s uncle to rest at a good old age of 83years. What amazed me most is that at least 50% of my relatives could not recognize me. I had to re-introduce myself afresh. At times I was hesitant as I found it somewhat tasking and so my mum would gladly do it. She would proudly go like, “do you know this one”? This is my daughter. I silently interceded that some of them would not get a heart attack, out of the shock clearly registered on their faces. Most of my folk kept stealing glances at me & my husband. Their eyes kept stalking us everywhere. They could barely connect the village poor plumb girl they knew over a decade ago to the elegant lady standing before them. Most of their faces registered disbelief whether such metamorphosis or transformation is real. There was one particular aunty that appeared so restless. Until we decided not to prolong our stay after the burial as our presence was nerve wrecking most of them. This made be recollect how my bishop used to prophesy, “God is blessing you so much so, some of your relatives will not recognize you when you meet them” “you will have to re-introduce yourself”. I am a living testimony today. Some of these folks did not even attend my wedding. They only knew me when I frequently visited them and worked for some of them as a housemaid. They made me walk 1km with a pile of 12trays of eggs trapped on my fragile back taking them to the market, and the pay would be 3slices of bread with jam & blueband which felt like heaven though! They knew me when I couldn’t afford decent clothes and when shoes were a luxury. They knew me when my hair was always shaven, and not because it was fashion; but to minimize lice population as even with short hair they still stuck to my little head. They knew me when my feet were infested with jiggers. They knew me when I was naïve, broke and broken. They did not understand that even then, I had an appointment with destiny. They concluded my story and wrote me off too soon. They finalized the end of my story even before it had begun. They did not realize that upon my rugged acned face bore the seal of the blood of the Lamb. They did not understand that grace was busy structuring my story, so as to embark on writing it. I am an ardent advocate of, “Never write off someone because of where they are”. What you see on the outside is not who they are. The cheap clothes they might be wearing do not define them either. They may not have the English and the grammar, but grace can re-write their story. If the finger of God be on them, there is no telling how God will turn around their captivity. There is an anointing that teaches us all things 1 Jn 2:27. The anointing will teach you all things, not only how to love God, but how to dress too, how to match your clad, how to take care of your body by working it out, how to walk, how to sit, how to dine, etc, etc. When God has interest in you, to take you to nations across the globe, He will rebrand you. The marks of jiggers and acne will be absolutely erased. He will pluck out what needs to be plucked out of you. He will give you a brand new identity that has not existed before. He will make you look good on Him. He will furnish and garnish you with elegance and demeanour like The Ambassador you are, so that you represent Him fully and appropriately. He will not only make you a sign and a wonder, but a praise and glory to His name. Wait on God. Tarry longer in the closet. You don’t have to explain your current ‘sorry state’ to anybody. Just be still. He, who began a good work in you, will surely carry it to completion. He is no respecter of any person. He does not garner for opinion. Neither does He consult when it gets to your turn. He is your redeemer, your lifter, your glory and shield.
