YOU NEED SELF DISCIPLINE TO PREPARE FOR POST UTME Are you a Jambyte seeking admission? The truth is that many will give everything they have (Intelligence, connection, money or bribe etc) Just to take that slot that you are seeking in any university in this country. It has become a matter of the survival of the fittest. However, my dear, all you need (not just to get admission) but to be a man/woman that this generation would respect is self discipline. I see discipline as a sine qua non for excellence. Discipline is the ability to do what is necessary even when it is not convenient. Naturally, we like doing what is easy rather than what is necessary. Just pause a little and ask yourself these questions: How much time do I spend on social networks___ 2go, Whatsapp Facebook, Twitter etc? How much time do I spend visiting and chatting with friends? How much time do I spend attending one social gathering or the other? How much time do I...? Having analyzed the time you spend having fun; now as a student, ask yourself, “How much time do I spend studying and doing things that adds to my academics?” The truth of the matter is that studying___ not reading romantic novels and erotic magazine___ is hard work. It takes a lot of discipline and determination to study. It is rather unfortunate that we have raised a generation of youths who are at home with frivolities. Youths that would rather spend hours before the screen of plasma TVs; we have raised a generation of youths that spend hours whatsapping; young men and women that would go for night parties on the eve of an important exam. Presently there is a paradigm shift in the scheme of things, as most youths are now suffering from what I call ‘Technomania ___ technology madness. However, my happiness is that there are still few youths out there who are taking the bull by the horn. Youths like you, my dear, who are ready to do the right thing not because it is fun but because it MUST BE DONE. I’m proud of you! As you prepare for the up-coming Post UTME, don’t be discouraged because you have all it takes to be an undergraduate. Did you hear that? “You have all it takes to be the man/woman who would one day stand in the gap for this generation.” Don’t be discouraged by the fact that you’ve written JAMB more than once. It is not how far you fall that matters but how high you can bounce. For now I would end by saying, KEEP KEEPING ON.
