YOUNG AUSTRALIAN STRANDED IN MEXICO HOSPITAL NEEDS YOUR HELP! A few days ago while traveling in Mexico Ryan was struck by a tragic, life threatening blow. Ryan has Crohn’s disease. In the most simplest form his condition has caused a perforation of his intestines leading to blood poisoning which has left him fighting for his life. After under-going extensive surgery which removed 60cm of his intestines, to treat his massive attack he got blood poisoning which unfortunately has left Ryan in a critical condition. This has caused organ failure, affecting his heart, lungs, kidneys and liver. After this tragic turn in his condition he had to be transferred to Galenia hospital in Cancun that has the appropriate medical equipment and staff to help him survive. The doctors have put him in an induced coma so his body can rest and recover. His family and friends have been doing everything they can to help Ryan through this, unfortunately there is a time where a call to the greater community is needed. The cost of medication just for 2 days has been $27,000 which doesnt include the doctor and anesthesiologist bills, which are mounting. Ryan’s family have to pay these bills daily in order to keep him alive and being treated. We expect that in the coming days doctors will attempt to wake him from his coma and improve his condition so that he is able to be transferred home or if not to Australia to Canada where the medical expenses are not so high. However to do all of that will most likely exceed $100,000 dollars. This is not a rare disease More than 75,000 Australians live with these conditions, with numbers expected to increase to more than 100,000 by 2022; you probably know someone who has this condition, its a tragic circumstance which this young man has found himself in and unfortunately he was not eligible to be covered by his travel insurance. Our thoughts and prayers are with Ryan and his family and at this time we are calling upon the greater community to donate what they can to help this family through this tragic circumstances.
