YOUR ASTROLOGICAL SIGN AND THE WORD OF GOD When God’s judgment came upon the Southern Kingdom of Judah because of their idolatry (the worship of idols), He used Nebuchadnezzar (the King of Babylon) to conquer the land of Judah (Jeremiah 25:9); laying waste the Capitol City of Jerusalem in 586 BC. The children of Israel were in Babylonian captivity until 539 BC when God permitted the Medes and the Persians to conquer the kingdom of Babylon in a single night. Why did Babylon fall? We read about it in Isaiah, Chapter 47. Isaiah 47:9-15 Verse 9: “But these two things shall come to thee in a moment in one day, the loss of children, and widowhood: they shall come upon thee in their perfection for the multitude of thy sorceries, and for the great abundance of thine enchantments.” Belshazzar, king of Babylon, unlike his grandfather, Nebuchadnezzar, mocked the God of Israel and played to the false gods of sorcery and witchcraft. He saw himself as a god whose kingdom was invincible. So God calls on him to stand with his false gods and see if they will deliver him from the judgment that was about to fall upon him. Isaiah 47:10-15 “10: For thou hast trusted in thy wickedness: thou hast said, None seeth me. Thy wisdom and thy knowledge, it hath perverted thee; and thou hast said in thine heart, I am, and none else beside me. 11: Therefore shall evil come upon thee; thou shalt not know from whence it riseth: and mischief shall fall upon thee; thou shalt not be able to put it off: and desolation shall come upon thee suddenly, which thou shalt not know. 12: Stand now with thine enchantments, and with the multitude of thy sorceries, wherein thou hast laboured from thy youth; if so be thou shalt be able to profit, if so be thou mayest prevail. 13: Thou art wearied in the multitude of thy counsels. Let now the astrologers, the stargazers, the monthly prognosticators [*horoscope casters], stand up, and save thee from these things that shall come upon thee. 14: Behold, they shall be as stubble; the fire shall burn them; they shall not deliver themselves from the power of the flame: there shall not be a coal to warm at, nor fire to sit before it. 15: Thus shall they be unto thee with whom thou hast laboured, even thy merchants, from thy youth: they shall wander every one to his quarter; none shall save thee.” Not only will the wicked burn with their sorceries and their enchantments, but the devil and his demons, who reside behind every piece of sorcery (1Cor 10:20), will likewise face the eternal judgment God. Why did Babylon fall? – The people trusted in the foolishness of sorcery and witchcraft which produces astrologers, stargazers and monthly prognosticators (horoscope casters) leading people to look to their heavenly bodies rather than to God who created the heavenly bodies? Here are folks worshipping the CREATION more than the CREATOR. Paul paints a rather unflattering picture of these folks in his letter to the church at Rome, “Professing them-selves to be wise, they became fools…and worshipped and served the CREATURE more than the CREATOR…” (Romans 1:22, 25) Looking to your astrological sign for daily guidance and direction is idolatry. Paul calls it “foolishness.” But God, more severely, calls it an act of worship worthy of eternal judgment. (Isaiah 47:13) God calls us to look unto Him for salvation, “Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.” (Isaiah 45:22) (*) My brackets
