YOUR BROTHERS NEED YOU!!! ---------------------------------------------- Assalamu alaikum dear brothers and sisters. As you all know that floods have ravaged a huge part of Jammu and Kashmir (on the Indian side). The government there has been very slow in helping the valley’s residents which constitutes people from all religions (Muslims, Hindus, Sikh and Christian). Millions of people are in dire need; homes have been destroyed and businesses lost. There is no hope for them except us. At this important juncture, its our duty to help our fellow brethren. Allah says in the Quran: “The believers, both men and women, are awlia (helpers, supporters, allies) to each other.” (Al-Tawbah, 71) Imagine yourself in their place stranded for days with no help in sight, hungry and pale. Wouldn’t you be looking for a savior? The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Whoever relieves a calamity that has struck a believer in this world, Allah will relieve for him one of the calamities of the day of Judgment, and whoever makes things easy for a person in trouble, Allah will make his matters easy in this life and in the hereafter, and whoever shields the faults of a Muslim, Allah will shield his faults in this world and the hereafter, and Allah will help and support his servant as long as he is helping and supporting his brother. (Sahih Muslim) Open your purses and wallets and come to the aide of your brothers and get a reward from your Lord, who says: “Those who spend (in the cause of Allah) privately or publicly, by night and day, have their reward with their Lord. And (on the Day of Resurrection) they shall neither fear nor grieve.” (Al-Baqarah 2:274) And, “And whatever you spend or whatever you vow to offer, Allah verily knows it and the evildoers have no helpers.” (Al-Baqarah 2:270) There are indigenous Muslims relief organisations working day and night on the ground bringing relief to the people there. But they alone cannot handle the calamity of this size. Kashmir hasn’t seen anything like this before. Keep in mind that more than two thirds of the population is Muslim, and they rightly deserve your zakat and sadaqat.
