YOUR RIGHT TO DEMAND FOR ACCOUNTABILITY FROM US Democracy is a common enterprise for all our citizens. To benefit from the dividends of democracy, one ought to invest in the enterprise through direct participation or by investing in those who are on the vanguard. Investing is not merely by talking or writing in fora where the tumult begins and ends or wishing for change without more; investing in democracy requires practical acts that have direct visible or tangible impact on the process to effect change. Without this type of prudent investment, one may find him/her self divested of premium share certificate and therefore dividends at the general assembly of stakeholders. Let us invest in our struggle for democracy with direct material and relevant intellectual resources that will tangibly be put to use by those managing the enterprise, with all the usual demands for accountability and transparence. By not doing this, one would be directly liable for perpetuating his or her own plight under a dictatorship or any formof government. Without the required resources, the tumult will end where it begins - in the minds and in the pages of the fora as mere wishes. Like all investments, the struggle for democracy has to be properly managed, supported by adquate resources. Even the best of managers with the best of intentions will fail without resources. One would deny him or her self the legal & moral right to require accountability in a situation where one has defaulted in making payments to what was being accounted for. Equally, one would lose moral and legal standing to demand for transparency or action where one is inherently deficient of. In law, we call it locus standi. The Americans in practice taught the British two hundred years ago, that you cannot demand taxes if you deny us the right to be represented. Demands for accountability goes with personal responsibility discharged. One would deny him/her self the right to demand accountability from your political leaders managing the struggle for democracy, if you have not contributed in entrusting them with your physical investment in the struggle. That is why, we consider leadership a TRUST. No rights to accountability without tangible share participation is the inverse lesson of no taxation without representation. Step up to the table, grab your share democracy certificate today, and require success from this enterprise as a stakeholder from the managers and board of the struggle for democracy in The Gambia. Support the Party of your choice, and put your hands where your mouth is, and then you would be entitle to require your dividend.
