YOUR VIEW: AS MUSLIMS prepare to celebrate Eid, accusations of religious intolerance over the fasting period have surfaced. The Pharmaceutical Society’s KZN Coastal branch decided to hold its elections during|Ramadaan in spite of Muslim members asking for a postponement. An especially bitter pill was one comment by an executive member of the society, Maria Borrageiro. In an email she said: “Religion has got NOTHING to do with business meetings … business does not get stopped in our HOLY EASTER MONTH…if you feel you cannot attend at certain times … that is a very personal choice.” Solly Suleman, owner of Sparkport Pharmacy in Durban, felt especially aggrieved. He has accused the branch of sidelining Muslims and showing religious intolerance. Suleman said Muslim pharmacists viewed the matter so seriously that they intended challenging the matter in the Durban High Court. (Your comments could be published in POST)
