YOUTH & FAMILY COUNSELLOR Nexus Youth Services is a fully accredited, community based, counselling and resource service for young people ages 14 to 24 who live in the Region of Peel and who are feeling isolated from support systems. Nexus provides individual counselling services in both an office-based and community setting. In all aspects of service delivery, Nexus is committed to engaging youth and helping them to achieve their goals. Nexus Youth Services One Year Contract (37.5 hours/week) File #13-041 All duties and responsibilities are provided in alignment with the agency’s Vision, Mission and Values and Clinical Philosophy. As a Youth & Family Counsellor, working in an integrated service delivery system, you will demonstrate an understanding of youth engagement and youth drop-in services. You are an active learner and committed to your ongoing professional development. Reporting to the Supervisor of Nexus Youth Services, you will provide strength-based case management, advocacy, and individual counseling to an ongoing caseload of clients aged 14-24. Limited family work may also be involved. In addition, you will provide single-session appointments to incoming clients on a weekly basis. As the successful incumbent you will: • Demonstrate sensitivity and commitment to youth centered service utilizing a strength-based approach; • Possess directly related experience in counselling youth, utilizing evidence based brief service models and CBT; • Provide skilled assessment and treatment services to youth; • Collaborate with other professionals and community resources to ensure effective service delivery on behalf of each client; • Demonstrate a passion for working with youth and possess working knowledge of social service, educational, and employment systems and resources within Peel; • Ensure the availability of required information for all clients by maintaining comprehensive case records and data in a timely manner; • Have the ability to effectively assess, manage, design, and implement a crisis plan to ensure safety within the home/school/community settings; • Provide case management services; • Be knowledgeable in and provide group services as required; • Utilize high levels of oral and written communication skills, time management and critical thinking skills with a strong understanding of role boundaries; • Possess exceptional interpersonal, team and conflict resolution skills; • Participate in quality improvement and program evaluation initiatives; • Be current in the knowledge of, and adhere to, agency policies and procedures as well as relevant legislation for children’s services; • Be sufficiently computer literate to operate our client care information system and Microsoft Office Suite; • Possess a Master’s degree in Social Work with three years related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience; • Have a valid Ontario Driver’s license, use of a vehicle and be able to work flexible hours according to program needs. The annual salary range for this position is from $54,855 to $65,684. In addition, contract staff are eligible for 4% in lieu of benefits and 4% in lieu of vacation.
