YOUTH POVERTY CURTAIL After a period of preparations, the Government is now disbursing funds to youth entrepreneural groups under the Youth Livelihood Programme (YLP). the YLP, under the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development, which is initially a five year project, will see up to 265billion ultimately released for youth projects all over Ugandan.it is a non-partisan project linked with the Governments expanded anti-poverty crusade,specifically targeted at addressing the growing youth Unemployment in Uganda. Rightly,so, the MGLSD has been dismissing repugnant institutions by ailing political actors that such a noble Government programme was designed for the benefit of NRM supporters. This Financial Year 2014/15, the Ministry of Financing,Planning and economic Development has allocated sh 53 Billion to cover about 40,000 youth groups. this will build on the earlier support to some 20,000 youth groups who received funding after the launch of the YLP in January 2014. The government welcomes other ingenious proposals provided their performance proponents demonstrate some minimum capacity to run the ventures. Approved beneficiaries should illustrate a good aptitude to partake of prior financial and fragile project management skills imparted by the Ministry of Gender,Labour and Social Development. this will ensure that the Beneficiary groups are able to build their enterprises but also save so that their projects remain viable even after paying back funds received from the YLP. To ensure that funding goes to serious youth groups, they are required to demonstrate that their enterprises have been running for at least three months prior to application for Government support.Youth groups aspiring for support under the YLP should, therefore, take advantage of the ongoing countrywide National Identity Card exercise to document their Bio-data for ease of verification by the YLP loan officers. The YLP is structured to build productive linkages with various sectors of Uganda economy and support our bid for enhanced social economic development. For Ugandas youth a new dawn laden with hope and wealth creation possibilities is surely beckoning. Youth groups and other YLP stakeholders are now able to access,with ease,further information about the project from the Ministry of Information and National Guidance.
