Ya know- the last one was pretty popular so I thought Id add a few facts you might not know about the city of Camdens contribution to the world (and particularly the multiple worlds of entertainment)....this one is slightly nerdier however; 1. For those of you musicians that love tube amps? your 12AX7 Tubes (you can find them in Vox, Marshall, Korg Keyboards) invented by Radio Corporation of America (RCA) in Camden. 2. The 8-track tapes earliest developments started in film- a continuous loop tape was in use fairly early for the purpose of syncing audio and film......both systems developed in Camden. 3. Andy Warhol was a staff artist for Camden records (an RCA label)- his Camden covers are some of the most sought after....one cant help but think of Andy seeing the Campbells soup plant while collecting his check..... 4. RCA connectors. You might still see them- they are by far one of the most common connectors in audio/video 5. Camden records (additionally) was home to many re-issues and (earlier) original acts......its not uncommon to see Little Richard, Elvis, Sam Cooke, Chet Atkins, Perry Como, Peter Nero, Dr. Seuss- all bearing the Camden brand. 6. Little Nipper- the dog atop the Victor Talking Machine Co. plant was so popular he had his own fan club- and his earliest line of toys were manufactured and sold by New Yorks FAO Schwartz. 7. The RCA Video disc was developed at a very high cost in Camden (and later with other cities - as the project took 17 years to release to the public from its early 60s inception).......Basically.....it was the first DVD player- pre-dating the laser disc....and even predating VHS......thats right.....Movies on disc should by all means have occurred in the 60s....but in fighting at the company caused a severe delay.....and ultimately became one of the larger failures the company would ever have....one of its many coffin nails. 8. Victor Talking Machine Co. introduced the use of Vinyl - as a Victrolac brand of records- soon the entire music industry moved from Shellac based 78s to Vinyl based records in the years to come. 9. Camden invented the 12 inch- LP format but not the 33 1/3 speed designation.....again......inventing the 78 and 45 is good enough i suppose. 10. The very first million selling single came from Camden, NJ (See Vesti la giubba by Caruso) Recorded 3 times- twice by Victor Talking Machine Co......which indicated a million sales a few years after its initial release. (also see SEINFELD- its that episode where crazy Joe Divola dresses up as a clown)
