Ya know, I am kind of bummed right now. I grew up just west of Houston outside of a town called Fulshear/Richmond. I grew up going with my dad to Houston Oiler, Astro games and sometimes went to Astroworld in the summer. These were very fond memories for me. I now live very far from Houston (Seattle, north of), and am a bit out of touch with the comings and goings of the area. What I do know is that Houston has the highest property tax rates of the 4 largest cities in the US. That’s right, the highest. So to say I am a bit miffed, how could Harris County not have the funds to revamp, utilize, and memorialize the Astrodome in any way is beyond me. For those of us that now live outside Texas, many are wondering the same thing. Texas loves to boast about all its riches, and I am always one to toot Texas’s horn, yet it (Houston), is too inept to save the 8th wonder of the world. What a shame, and this is another black eye to Houston and Texas for that matter. You would think that Houston would keep the “Dome” for a number of reasons, it was the home of the best football team Houston has ever seen, the Luv ya blue Oilers with the most popular coach/ icon the area has ever had, “The Bum”. The original home to the Astro’s, the Houston Rodeo, etc, etc. ESPN has some of the best highlights of Earl Campbell, Dan Pastorini, & The Bum in the Dome. I have been asked more about the Dome this last week from folks that came from all over and wanted to know what is up with Houston not saving the Dome. I don’t have an answer , so I am bummed. What is up with you Houston? I hope you enjoy your high property taxes. That is something to be proud of; it’s obviously not the Dome.
