Yahoo Group: PEOPLE AGAINST TRIBALISM IN NIGERIA, PATIN Tribalism in the church is a slap on the face of Christ. When any Christian, irrespective of his or her leadership position, tows tribal/ethnic line in his or her friendships and remains continually indisposed or dislike, hate, distrust and discriminate against anyone who is truly a Christian just because of the person’s tribe/ethnic group he/she places more value on the marks on our faces, the colour of the skin, the name we are called, the language people speak and earthly ties more than the tie brought about by the blood of Jesus Christ. He/she makes little of that pure, innocent, holy and righteous blood that qualified/qualifies us to become members of one family, in Christ. Tribalism sustains the pillars, in the Nigeria church, which are working against the prayer of Christ concerning the unity of the people He purchased through His death on the Cross of Calvary and by the blood which He shed for us to be called the beloved of God. This is a call on every Christian in Nigeria to read the handwriting on the wall and truly repent of every act of tribalism which he/she promoted or pretended about. The LORD is saying that more than anything else we can think about, tribalism is a major hindrance militating against the Gospel from truly entering into hearts and homes, communities and people groups, ethnic nationalities and tribes, in Nigeria. There are other factors, but this is key. How would you feel if the LORD knows you to be one of the Christians in Nigeria/leaders in the church who pretend about the evil of divisions along tribal lines in Nigeria, deny its effect on the family of God in Nigeria, do not promote actions against tribalism in the church, but in one way or the other allows it? If you are among the people who are passive about tribalism in the church in Nigeria, promote it subtly, or even give reasons in your heart to justify it, the Lord is calling you today to genuinely repent and seek grace of Him to untie yourself from its hold. I pray that you don’t fall victim because it won’t be long and the Lord will begin to call people (from a certain level of leadership in the church in Nigeria) to account on this. Imagine how it sounds that in all your effort, sacrifices and hard work for the King of kings, He is seeing you as one of the people promoting or doing nothing against the One critical reason why the Gospel is being hindered in Nigeria? What you should do? i. Truly repent of every trace of tribalism in you as a person. Ask for forgiveness over every time you did not speak up against discrimination or denial against a child of God, especially based on tribalism ii. Ask for grace to continually live and speak up against tribalism anywhere you may find it, especially in the body of Christ. iii. If we fail to do what we ought to do against tribalism today, by year 3014 we may just wake up to realize that we are yet to cover the JUST ONE KILOMETRE DISTANCE to our true greatness. The painful thing is that by 3014 most, if not all of us, will not be around to see the result of what we failed to do. However, if we do what we should today we can welcome a better Nigeria from a distance.
