Yankees Give Headley $52 Million at 3rd as A-Rod Returns The New York Yankees made Chase Headley the seventh-highest-paid third baseman in Major League Baseball, with one of the six ahead of him already on their roster. Looking for stability at third base with the uncertainty surrounding Alex Rodriguez as he returns from a 162-game suspension, the Yankees gave Headley a four-year deal that CBS Sports said is worth $13 million annually. Rodriguez, who played almost 1,200 games at third base for the Yankees from 2004 through 2013, will probably get at-bats mostly as the designated hitter this season, when he’ll make $27.5 million. Headley’s average annual salary ranks behind Rodriguez, Boston’s Pablo Sandoval, the New York Mets’ David Wright, Washington’s Ryan Zimmerman, Texas’s Adrian Beltre and Seattle’s Kyle Seager among third basemen.
