Yann Demanges directorial debut, 71 starring Jack O’Connell receives its UK film premiere tonight at the BFI London Film Festival. The film is screening in competition for the Sutherland Award (First Feature), recognising the most original and imaginative directorial debut: ow.ly/CrlVb Set in 1971, the film tells the story of a young British soldier (Jack O’Connell) who is accidentally abandoned by his unit following a riot on the streets of Belfast. Unable to tell friend from foe the raw recruit must survive the night alone and find his way to safety through a disorientating, alien and deadly landscape. ’71 was written by Gregory Burke (Black Watch) and produced by Angus Lamont for Crab Apple Films and Robin Gutch for Warp Films.
