Yay Grand Jury Duty day 2! I am hearing the coolest names that would be amazing for character names. I have heard the meaning of the term voucher about 15 times and thanksfully they have stopped reading us the excruitatingly exact definitions of legal terms. The other jurors are generally cool but already we are experiencing disagreements that are becoming more vocal now that weve warmed up. For those who havent had the pleasure of this experience, a grand jury listens to evidence presented by the prosecutor and decides if a) there was a crime committed based on the evidence and b) is the defendant likely to have committed the crime. We do not decide Guilty or Not Guilty. We only have the power to formally charge someone with a crime or send them to other courts or dismiss the charge. Things Ive learned. 1) Undercover cops are really unassuming. They look like a number of people I have taken for granted while jaywalking. *shifty eyes* 2) The legal definitions of criminal possession in the 3rd, 4th, 5th degree, theft, larceny, grand larceny and a number of other felonies. 3) and where the best food in china town is within a 15 minute walk from the court house.
