Yay! Myself and Ben are back home after a few very successful weeks in Saskatchewan working on a TransCanada Compressor Station. TransCanada wants to have a Lessons Learned meeting this week. Naively I think they expect it to be about work related items. Here are my lessons learned items for the agenda: Lesson #1: Saskatchewan has no landmarks. We identified our turning point on the highway by the fact that the tarmac changed colour slightly. This is the honest truth. Lesson #2: Not all people from Saskatchewan end up marrying their siblings. One of the guys on site got married last week. As far as we could tell he wasnt closely related to his wife-to-be in any way. Lesson #3: Tampax do not have an expiry date. The Compressor Station has a Tampax machine, that, from what we can tell, has never felt the delicate touch of a womans hand (or been refilled) since it was installed in 1996. Lesson #4: TransCanada employees have a rule that they slow down to 10km/h below the posted speed limit between dusk and dawn, but they were unable to answer how this would be applied if they were in a car-park with a 10km/h speed limit. We came to the conclusion that if they drove in reverse they would probably be okay as this would officially be a negative speed. Lesson #5: When doing long roads trips the driver gets to chose the music. Lesson #6: There do not appear to be any police speed traps in Saskatchewan. Lesson #7: There are very suddenly a lot of speed traps when you cross back into Alberta. Lesson #8: Company issued Radar Detectors are a must for long road trips. Lesson #9: Saskatchewan has trains. Lots of trains. Occasionally they fall off the track. Lesson #10: Bring your own booze to Saskatchewan. Liquor stores are few and far between; which is ironic as it would appear that drinking is the #1 coping mechanism for living in Saskatchewan. It should be a lively meeting.
