Yay! Today was the last day of Duncans Interim Maintenance phase of treatment. Although this phase was much more difficult than what we anticipated we have come through it. During this phase, Duncan was quite ill and would lose his appetite for almost a week after receiving his chemo. Its always an emotionally draining day when Duncan is sedated for his spinal tap/Lumbar Puncture chemo treatments. Its difficult to get the image out of our minds after those days. Thankfully, he comes out of the sedation in a funny mood most of the time with no additional pain or complaints. The Drs became concerned with his weight loss and he wouldnt eat anything at all. Given hes always been a picky eater, it made this extremely challenging and frustrating. However, once the Docs informed Mama it was important for him to get calories regardless of where they came from , Daddy came to the rescue. Thanks to his magical Blue Bell Ice Cream milk shakes, Duncan gained almost a pound in the last week! Unfortunately, as a result of Daddys rigorous quality control program, he gained 5 pounds (-: There is no end to the sacrifices made by Daddy lol. Duncans immune system is finally waking up although it it is nowhere near normal, he should be able to start school by mid september. Duncan is very excited and ready to see all his old friends and teachers. We still have almost 3 years of treatments in front of us but the road will hopefully be less challenging from here on out. Thanks again to everyone for the prayers.
