Years ago when discussing the matter of REPENTANCE with my Pastor, Dr. Sammy Kay . he said something to me which has been extremely helpful in dealing with this subject over the years. He said, Repentance and faith are two sides to the same coin. I take them to be one and the same, but they are at THE VERY LEAST so closely linked that you cannot separate them. You cant have one without the other. I take Acts 20:21, (Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.) to be a redundancy, with faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ being the definition of repentance toward God.) I recently noticed two other passages of scripture which also demonstrate that FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST equals REPENTANCE TOWARD GOD. Acts 11:18 VERY IMPORTANT! “When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.” This is said in reference to Peters message to Cornelius, a message where PETER DID NOT USE THE WORD “REPENT” IN ANY FORM. Heres what he did say:”To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever BELIEVETH IN HIM shall receive remission of sins.” Acts 10:43. Once again, the Holy Spirit gives witness that repentance unto life is synonymous with believ(ing) in him. Someone says, Thats what Hyles and Hutson preached. I dont care if a lop eared jackalope preached it, it is Bible, and it is right.
