Years of corruption have trusted Colombia into a deep social - TopicsExpress

Years of corruption have trusted Colombia into a deep social crisis that has been erupting over the course of this week. Sick and tired of years of accumulating losses local farmers have taken it to the streets blocking highways, isolating from food and fuel supply important hubs in the country. Paradoxically, the Colombian government in the head of President Santos, refuses to engage in talks. All while at the same time ‘peace’ talks are held in Cuba, with the very authors of heinous crimes against Colombians and foreigners in and out of our soil. The current situation is dire, while the social networks have exploded with vivid proof of protest, fighting and excess of authority, the government down plays the situation and the media has been instructed not to broadcast reality. Rather than a democratic country, this looks more like a military dictatorship. Colombia’s economy is attracting world investment today more than ever before, yet, the poor are poorer and only the rich are getting richer. When Colombia’s farmers, some of our most noble and hardworking citizens, initiate a call for protest and are willing to risk it all just to be heard – we know things have gone terribly wrong. We need our Shakira’s, Juan Pablo Montoya’s, Sofia Vergara’s and other talented Colombians abroad to help the world know what goes on today.
