Yep. A) the sweeping permissions are generally for actual, you know, usage purposes. If you got a pop-up requesting permission every time you wanted to send a photo through the app...youd be screaming about that, too. B) Say it with me: we are not Facebooks customer; we are its product. C) All apps have similar sweeping permissions, so that, again, they can function. Do they technically mean that Facebook can randomly record something with the microphone on your phone? Yes. Do you really think there is any reason they would actually do so? Is it really just them covering their asses in case it accidentally gets turned on and you send something you dont intend to? Probably more likely. If youre THAT worried about the slim chance of hackers and malicious use of apps...its probably better to just not have a smartphone. Otherwise, avoid the questionable apps (you know the ones I mean) and stick with ones that have been developed by trustworthy companies. Ive been using the new Messenger for probably a year and not once has it taken over my phone and started making phone calls for me.
