Yes, I agree. Just as the U.S. has an obligation to hire U.S. workers who are qualified for the jobs. However, education gets in the way. The "easy option" mentioned for businesses is rarely the most cost effective. Here in the U.S., an H-1B visa to hire a foreign worker could cost as much as $10,000 with filing fees, attorneys fees, and additional costs over the six year period of the visa (2 stay period at 3 years each). The permanent residency option (which most expect when they come to work for an American employer in the U.S.) starting with the recruitment phase, then the 9089, I-140 and the I-485 at the end of the day costs around $25,000 and could take 6-15 years depending on the home country of the petition beneficiary. This is just for the employee. Add in costs for their wives and children on H-4 visas, etc., your talking serious cash output. This is a difficult issue to sum up "Do Your Duty and Hire Americans", to change the title of the article.
