Yes. It did happen. Today, in Sofia, the jury of the Ivan Nikolov National Poetry Award gave away two first prizes. One of these went to my book, the Bulgarian-only Как наказва Бог (How God Punishes) published by ICU - publishing, translation, scouting. The other went to Vasil Balev, whose book was published by Fakel Express/Fakel Journal - the press that put out my first two Bulgarian books. Im thrilled for him and for his publisher. Besides me, there were seven other finalists for the award, all of them amazing poets with excellent new books. My beloved publisher and friend, Nevena Dishlieva-Krysteva received the award on my behalf while I was sitting in front of my computer, wearing sweat pants and mismatched socks and reading poems for The Louisville Review. I think that tonight I want to go out to celebrate by reading a poem from the book in two languages at the Holler Poets Series Stage, if Eric Scott Sutherland would have me! So thankful to everyone involved with this awesome prize, which ИК Жанет 45 so generously awards for the 20th time. I have more gratitude that I can express for the moment, so Ill just shut up.
