Yes, Jon, there are whales 600 kms (6.5 hr drive) from Barrhaven. I visited, on Monday, Riviere du Loup, and once more, took the "whale watching cruise". Whales seen included two Fin Whales (second in size only to Blue Whales, which feed further to the east in the Gulf of St. Lawrence), 3 pods of Belugas, and several Minke Whales. Also seen were dozens of seals (Harbour and Grey), and the following birds: Black Guillemots, Common Murres, Common Eiders, and my first flock of migrating shorebirds, about 30 Semi-Palmated Sandpipers.
