Yes, boys and girls, Thor will be swapping genders later this year. Announced this morning on -of all places- The View with Whoopi Goldberg, Thor will have to let go of his iconic Mjolnir when he becomes no longer worthy to wield it. A new, female THOR will pick it up and become the new THOR. Because Marvel cant just make a new strong female character. Yah. So were getting a new Cap and a new Thor at some point later this year. Makes you wonder whats gonna happen to Tony Stark, eh? Usually, I dont get upset about this kind of news, but it deeply reeks of gimmick and I hate gimmicks. This new Thor looks exactly like several other fem-Thors weve seen in the past (Thor on that one holiday where everyone in Asgard swaps genders, Earth X Thor who was magically bound to a womanly body by Loki) and I just cant help but ask why Marvel didnt just go down another one of those routes. I mean, we can safely bet that this female Thor wont be too far off from male Thor. Just by the visuals, we can see that. Jason Aaron is a wicked good writer though, so I will definitely give this a chance and see where it goes. Btw, havent we already met future Thor WITH Mjolnir? Eh.
