Yes, it is the same doctrine that proclaimed that the Philippines was discovered by the Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan who worked for Spain presumably to look for spices and instead landed in the Philippines. He was killed by tribal chieftain Lapulapu in my province of Cebu. Somehow, the Spanish colonizers managed to christianized the islands and occupied the country. There were disparate tribal communities with their own culture and civilization long before the European invaders arrived. The colonizers used the iconic sword and the cross to subdue the inhabitants. Spain ruled the Philippines for close to 400 years until the Philippine revolution defeated them only to be taken over by the Americans in the infamous Treaty of Paris which sold the Philippines and Cuba to the U.S. for a mere pittance. The subsequent arrival of the Americans resulted in a genocide which is rarely if ever mentioned in American history books. To this day U.S. and other imperialist countries control the Philippine economy with their puppet government. Even so, the Filipino people continues its revolution against the foreign occupiers to this day. The Communist-led revolution is the longest surviving in the world with over four decades of struggle that continues up to this day despite American efforts to defeat it.
