Yes, its that time again! Here is my annual pre-Thanksgiving shameless solicitation for the Long Beach Polar Bears Superbowl Splash/Make a Wish Foundation, as hopefully everyone is starting to get into the holiday spirit. This is our tenth anniversary!!! Team ABA has raised over $37,000 for Make a Wish over the last nine years, a very respectable portion of the total that the entire club raises annually. Not even Superstorm Sunday devastating the town could stop the Polar Bears! As the battle-cry sounded, “No boardwalk, no problem!” The swim will be held on February 1, 2015, as always Superbowl Sunday. My son David and I will be joining thousands of other people here in Long Beach in the annual Polar Bear Superbowl Splash. This is a very popular event, a Guinness book record holder for number of simultaneous swimmers in a Polar Bear event. Please join us this year, in body or in spirit. In past years we have dressed as penguins and as Vikings. We’re thinking Frozen for our costume theme this year. We’ve got Olaf and Sven covered between David and I. Where are our Princesses and other supporting characters??? Of course, costumes are optional if you’re a more dignified swimmer. Or, you can just donate money if freezing cold water isnt your schtick. For those of you who aren’t familiar with it, the Polar Bear swim is an annual event where slightly off people go swimming in the Atlantic Ocean in the dead of Winter to raise money for charity, and just because it is there. As you can see on the Longbeachpolarbears.org site and their official FB page, the Long Beach chapter swims to raise money for Make a Wish, a non-profit group that fulfills wishes for seriously and terminally ill children (makeawish.org). The children are provided the opportunity to go somewhere they have never been (and would probably never be able to go due to financial constraints) or to go and meet some person who is special to them, or to attend some special event. You can see photos from the swims on my FB page and at the Long Beach Polar Bear FB page, as well as a picture of Paulie, the very cool forever four year old in whose memory we swim. If you wish to contribute, click one of the links below to donate via credit card. If you want to join us, click the link to join TEAM ABA and set up your own fundraising page! Donations are tax-deductible to the maximum extent of the law here in the U.S. I don’t know what such rules are for you folks outside the U.S. You can also fundraise by buying high quality Long Beach Polar Bear merchandise. Follow the Polar Wear link on the longbeachpolarbears.org site to order awesome Long Beach Polar Bear clothing and other merchandise. Please consider donating or joining us in the Atlantic, and please consider this donation instead of any sort of holiday gift (to me, I mean. Feel free to give to anyone else you want to) and please feel free to share on social media. Warmest (so to speak), Bobby Link to donate to David: superbowlsplash.kintera.org/faf/donorReg/donorPledge.asp?ievent=1122767&lis=1&kntae1122767=C90E70A4B80A47C88C9ECC332159A5B8&supId=414435444&emaillogid= Link to join TEAM ABA and swim: superbowlsplash.kintera.org/faf/search/searchTeamPart.asp?ievent=1122767&lis=1&kntae1122767=C90E70A4B80A47C88C9ECC332159A5B8&supId=0&team=6189083&cj=Y Link to donate to me: superbowlsplash.kintera.org/faf/donorReg/donorPledge.asp?ievent=1122767&lis=0&kntae1122767=712092672A87422D8CA99D701FE105B6&supId=304264576
