Yes not everyone is buying it. The politicians looking for safe brownie points. And Ive heard many people this week voicing discomfort. Saying - murder is unacceptable for any reason. But that we were also taught at an early age that to disrespect others beliefs and be insensitive to the emotions of others was also unacceptable. One person today who I really didnt expect to say ... you wouldnt go out in the street and shout insults - why is it Ok in a magazine? I would defend completely the right of journalists to bring truth into the open. I worked with some at Granada Tv who risked their life to do it - I was in awe of their courage. But at a time when many are still being attacked and sometimes killed for their religion, Muslim, Jew and Christian - probably others too - is freedom of speech more important then kindness of speech? Dont we all have a responsibilty to be aware that our actions have consequences - a Buddhist teaching I think?
