Yesterday, 2 days before Christmas, unarmed 18-year old Antonio Martin was gunned down in the street by police in Berkeley, MO because he and his friend, Jesus, fit the description. The officer drew his weapon and told the two men to get on the ground, Antonio refused having done nothing wrong but be Black, male, and the subject of racial profiling. He was then shot repeatedly. His body lay in the street unattended to, no ambulance on the way nor the allowance of his broken hearted mother to comfort him. Why is there never help for the Black mothers son? This is our America. It is the arbiter of indiscriminate violence against the bodies of Black boys and girls. It cares not about our livelihood, humanity, or sanity. It makes us tired, exhausted and enraged to deeply know a country first stolen then built by our lashed and scarred backs still remains as racist in its systems, ideologies, habits of mind, and practices as it ever was. An America as good as its promise will be forever unrealized so long as the current flowing in its underbelly is the blood of citizens forevermore entitled to a life of human decency than the lives constantly and consistently taken away from them. #AntonioMartin #Every28Hours
