Yesterday 4/30/2014 the California City Police Department was conducting a probation and parole sweep. During the sweep at one location, police located several Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPG’s) in the 9000 block of Xavier Ave. Unified Command was set up with agencies including California City Fire Department, Bomb Squad Teams from the Kern County Sheriffs Department and Edwards Air Force Base Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit with additional stand-by coverage from Kern County Fire Department and Hall Ambulance. Officers evacuated 12 homes in the immediate area of the scene while Bomb Squad technicians disposed of the RPGs through out the night into the early morning. Due to the condition of the RPGs, they were disposed of on scene to render them safe by controlled detonations. California City Police Department has confirmed two subjects were arrested from the home; Local, County and Federal agencies were involved in the investigation. The mandatory evacuation was lifted this morning at 5:00.a.m
