Yesterday Beth and I had the opportunity to visit New Canada, a small little town in Lunenburg Co., a place where we had never been before. We attended an event at the South Shore Bluegrass Country Music Association Park that had a purpose of raising funds to help a young mother who was a former student at Pine Ridge Middle School. She also was a member of my Gaelic class. This past spring she gave birth to a son who had what is unofficially called "the Bubble Boy Syndrome" which refers to the fact that he has little or no immune system. Since May he has been in hospital in Montreal and the event was to help the family deal with the costs involved in travelling, etc. Besides some good bluegrass there was a flea market and silent auction. Sadly it took such an event to draw us to another beautiful part of Nova Scotia. On a positive note, the young boy is being transferred to the IWK Hospital in Halifax this week so progress is being made. Here is the story that appeared in a local paper. kingscountynews.ca/Community/2013-09-04/article-3373550/Fundraisers-planned-for-Kingston-baby-with-rare-disorder/1
