Yesterday, I attended the Head Tutors briefing to meet the new Director of Sense. We discussed interesting topics spanning from methodologies, pedagogies as well as approaches to educating our students in our centres. I observed that most educators (teachers, in particular) are thoroughly busy with aspects they deemed to be basic such as classroom management, tutors competencies in teaching, and mastery of subjects. Well, I replied that the objective of our Centre, in FJSS, is not merely to be a master of that syllabus, because we can all try and create A1 students in their subjects. That is just mastery of the standard syllabus. But what we want to achieve is mastery of knowledge itself, and that requires understanding the limits of every student, and having an architectonic view of Learning. And if we succeed, we can produce students that are Masters in Life, fiddeeni wadunia walakhirah. I dont expect a student to master algebra if he and his tutor tried their best and yet he failed that topic. Because Algebra was intended for commercial transactions, lawmakers, policymakers, and solving inheritance cases. Not everyone can play that role. Shoving info up their throats and call it Syllabus Mastery is evil.
