Yesterday I called up Wilken Bellmann the head of network - TopicsExpress

Yesterday I called up Wilken Bellmann the head of network development long haul for condor airlines. Condor airlines has been doing air charters to Mombasa for 20 yrs now, bringing in over 600 tourists per week. Because of the challenges our Kenyan brothers are facing, the airline is looking for an alternative destination and the competition is now between Tanzania, Rwanda and uganda.....my role was to convince them that uganda is best destination and when they make their decision on Monday uganda shd be it........Tanzania has promised a marketing support of 600,000 dollars to try and grab the deal this is how serious this is.....in my discussion he told they would start flying into uganda if everything goes well this November and would bring in about 15,000 tourists in the first yr.....can you imagine the opportunities that will be created? Accommodation, food supplies, internet use, fuel use, drivers, chefs, crafts, shall need at least 25 tour operators to hand them and at least 1500 jobs would be created.....according to UNWTO every 10 tourists create one permanent job and big follows big....more charters companies can follow......our national parks combined get less than 80,000 foreign tourists a yr which means we would grow our business by almost 20% in the first yr.....this is the reason I was angry about this alarmist approach..... Our security men are well trained and take a big part of our annual budget and are able to handle the situation without over alarming and killing opportunities
