Yesterday, I decided to take Meadow and Madd Maxx to the lake to - TopicsExpress

Yesterday, I decided to take Meadow and Madd Maxx to the lake to take advantage of the cool weather. They romped around, swam, scratched, and sniffed everything from a dead carp to a hole the feral pigs had rooted on the beach. Madd Maxx plows through the water of the lake in the next photo. While they roamed up and down the beach, I decided to look for evidence of prehistoric man. Well, I did not find a cache of Clovis bifaces or even a projectile point, but I did find an assortment of flake tools and a broken knife base. The stick of petrified wood (literally) on the upper row, left was a chisel made for wood working. The well-worked edge of the tool is still sharp and shows use wear. The first photo of the chisel shows the finely-flaked working edge while the second photo shows its beat up back side. The next photo is Meadow wondering where her dog treat is. The next photo after Meadow is another uniface scraping tool with two well-flaked spurs on the left side and one well worked spur on the right. The artifact can be found in the group photo in the upper row far right. Most of the edge around this scraper has been worked, except the distal end (top) which is still cortex (unflaked). I cannot tell if the prehistoric maker of this tool used it as an end scraper or not. Even with the cortex still attached to the top of the artifact, the distal edge is sharp. The last artifact picture is of a base of a knife form that the waves were banging around. Other artifacts I found were blades and a graver (see group photo. The dogs had a great time and so did I.
