Yesterday, I entered this, but for some reason, it only posted to the persons tagged in it. Let me try my hand at this again, The Monday of Thanksgiving break in our family was always about one thing: raking leaves. It was on that Monday when I was in the second grade, I learned of my sisters TRUE lineage. Prior to that time in my life, I was not made to work. If the family was working in the garden, my work was playing at the end of the row. It might have been as a result of my middle sisters unfortunate collision with the hub of a wheelbarrow, culminating in the event we have for decades referred to as the wheelbarrow accident, which caused this particular sister to enter college on crutches, (but she got to carry a neat little clear vinyl tote with brightly colored mod flowers to haul her books) that contributed to this particular day being the day where I was eventually told I was expected to rake leaves with the girls. whereas before if I was helping rake leaves, that actually meant they were raking the leaves into great piles, into which I would most heartily jump. I do believe it was our mother who gave the executive order on the matter, and little chunk that I was, I can easily picture myself with one chunky hand propped on one chunky hip and proclaiming, I dont have to do what you say; my DADDY is the boss of this house! Norma Rae did stand up for the downtrodden worker in the movies in the early eighties, but lets just say it did not go over that well in Farmerville, 1970, because the next thing I knew I was not being pursued across the pasture by my sisters but by none other than THE FLYING DEMON MONKEYS FROM THE WIZARD OF OZ!!!!! (My first brush with celebrity) They chased me across the pasture and tackled my chunky heinie among the cowpatties until Mama arrived with the belt. So. Although I have not posted a thankful post in a week or two, I am most thankful, times four for the flying blue demon monkeys from The Wizard of Oz, my sisters, Carolyn Corley, Willa Corley, Patty Chapman, and Addie Morris. Through thick and through thin, we are family and we are friends.
