Yesterday, I found a wet wallet in the parking lot...a lot of money in it...two Louisiana drivers licenses and a few credit cards. I picked it up, walked inside of my condo and began searching the internet to get the wallet back to them. Ten minutes into my search I look outside and, there, in the parking lot are these kids walking around staring at the ground all over the peddles parking lot walking like zombies...it occurred to me...OMG.. its them! I run out and hand them the wallet. They were from out of town and stuck in Birmingham without it....this was their 3rd attempt at trying to find the wallet. They were happy. I handed it to them and walked away. I was so glad to help. I thought, oh wow, I was a Good Samaritan! Then I googled the parable to make sure I was making an accurate analogy. WOW, turns out even 2000 years ago there was intense hatred and prejudices between religious groups, believers and non-believers, even back then. Turns out the Samaritan was a person least likely to be kind because, presumably, his beliefs were in opposition to the people Jesus was speaking to. The moral of the story was that even a non believer can do good deeds. So this analogy is actually rather accurate considering Im an atheist. Even though I dont believe, doesnt mean I dont have a moral compass, human compassion or dont know the difference between right and wrong.
