Yesterday I had a WONDERFUL day in my new city. Started with a long chat over couscous (it was Vendredi, people!) with Mandy Sinclair who had taking me over her wing and has kindly shared her Marrakech essentials with me (Thanks Mandy). After lunch I went for a walk over Gueliz, I randomly entered a small cafe where I ordered a Jus de avocat, pour emporter (avocado shake takeaway), while I was about to leave, a French-Marrakchi gentleman and his friend invited me to share some Eggs with Khilli, Moroccan bread and Mint tea, although I wasn´t feeling hungry; how can I refuse such invitation?. We talked for about an hour where they kindly showed me how to say important words in Arabic. Later on the evening, I went to Grand Café de la Poste to listen Spanish writer (and adopted Marrakchi) Juan Goytisolos unique and rare talk (unique and rare as he hardly gives conferences or talks anymore), in front of an eager, mostly french audience he discussed in particular the theme of Palestine but what really caught my attention was what he said about the importance (for writers) of using the right words in the right context ALWAYS, on how the Arabic language permeated our language (Spanish), and specifically how Arabic poetry captivated him and how he finds a resemblance between Arabic poetry and Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz mystic poetry. Such a beautiful and remarkable day. (Oh, I also made three more marrakchis friends over GCdlP) :) #iheartmarrakech #iheartkech #expatlife #Marrakech
