Yesterday I released the Jobs Plank of my Platform. Here it is. JOBS, JOBS, JOBS So far in this campaign we have released platform planks that have covered many areas that concern Londoners . Infrastructure Honesty, Integrity & Trust Small Business The Arts Leadership Respect for Taxpayers & the Family Budget Today we will discuss our plans to tackle the number on issue of this campaign Jobs, Jobs, Jobs. I will not promise jobs! I will promise that my plan will not include millions of dollars in new spending! I will promise this plan it will move the city out of silo based thinking into a conciliatory, participatory inclusive mechanism to create a welcoming environment for jobs Our campaign has prided itself on offering sensible solutions for Londoners. Today I offer more to help with the Jobs market in London. I promise a clear, results orientated plan. 1. From existing staff we will create The Director of Business Services and Development. They will be a liaison with major employers and economic development agencies . They will report directly to the Mayor and Council. Mandate will include: Identifying internal road blocks and removing them Helping business navigate City Hall allowing them to focus more time on their jobs Ensuring that all development agencies are pulling in the same direction 2. Initiate the London Development Task Force Chaired by Director of Business Services and Development Director of Small Business will be a permanent member Task Force will be made up of Business Leaders, Economists, Investors Mandate will be: Continual review of cities economic development strategies and employers help mold new initiatives to increase prosperity Identify areas of concern; like bussing to our industrial and business centres Identify potential future opportunities 3. Focus on the opportunities that will become available due to the Canada – EU Free Trade Agreement (CETA) and The Canada-Korea Free Trade Agreement (CFKTA). Main focus will be on Agra-Food Sector London is uniquely placed to attract European companies to invest here WE have the infrastructure and our location is desirable CETA predicts upwards of $12 Billion in economic investment and a 20% increase in trade Work closely with our senior levels of government to ensure WE GET OUR FAIR SHARE FOR LONDONERS 4. Community Improvement Plans Ontario has strict rules on how municipalities attract new businesses However we must institute community improvement plans (CIPs) that allow for some exemptions and rebates to companies who wish to locate in London This can be tax relief, waiving of development charges etc. These plans can be as broad or as definite as you wish. We must insure that community improvements plans are initiated in all areas that would be attractive to businesses and be either located in Industrial parks or Business enterprise zone LONDON MUST BE OPEN FOR BUSINESS
